Crochet Whale Project

"Can you crochet a whale?"

Crochet Whale by Over The Apple Tree

Well, I never would have thought of crocheting a whale. I mean what the heck for? I don't have a special affinity for marine mammals or live anywhere near the ocean. But when my family asks for something, I do it. I started searching for patterns and sending them to my brother to figure out what he had in mind. I knew he would have a very specific idea of what he wanted. Now here's what you get when a man is shopping for his male friend's new baby, of the few possibilities I found, this is the feedback I got..."Not the one with the blue eyes. Make them black and angry looking, I'm trying to scare his baby."

Super Squishy Crochet Bear

My daughter saw a crochet bear made with Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn at a craft show that she loved. When I spotted the yarn on sale on Black Friday, I thought now was the time to give the bear a try. I could not find a pattern with this kind of yarn that I liked, so I sat down and started experimenting.

I love how this crochet bear turned out! I'm thinking I'll have to make another bear because my kids have been trying to work out how to share custody of him. This post is for inspiration only, I don't have plans to post a pattern. Check out more of my crochet projects here!

Note to readers:
First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for all the lovely comments that have been left about my bear. Tons of people here on this post and through private messages have expressed an interest in the pattern, which I take as an amazing compliment. Unfortunately, as I've replied to such requests, a pattern is not available.

You might be interested in these projects on Ravelry.

I've never advertised anywhere that this pattern was available free or otherwise. If you've seen that somewhere, it was not posted by me. If you see my photo of this bear saying there is a pattern available, it's not my pattern.  I don't even have this pattern typed up on my computer, I scribbled it in my notebook as I made it up. If it is posted somewhere that a pattern for this specific bear is being offered, a simple heads up so I could notify the poster of their mistake would be appreciated. Thank You!

Crochet Like Crazy- Toothless

This time of year I'm always super busy because I make several of my holiday gifts. All my children's birthdays are also around this time. My daughter is crazy for the How To Train Your Dragon movie so I decided to crochet her Toothless for her birthday! This pattern is from Nichole's Nerdy Knots. She's in love with her new dragon!

**This pattern has been taken down from Ravelry but can still be found on Instructables

Crochet Reiki Chakra Doll

I received a special request from a friend for a Reiki doll.  I'm always up for a challenge, so here ya go! Honestly I had never heard of Reiki before now. What I have learned is that Reiki is a Japanese technique of "laying hands on" for healing, stress relief, and to promote well being. The different colors on the doll represent the seven chakras. Dolls are used for reiki training and distance healing.

This doll was based on one by Knot By Gran'ma. I started on this before I realized she had her pattern for sale. Oh well, with a little trial and error, it all worked out. Sorry, my pattern is not available.

I have these dolls available occasionally in my Etsy shop

Crochet Baby Gifts: Afghan and Amigurumi Bunny Set

If you want to give a unique and meaningful gift, you can't go wrong with handmade!

Crochet Baby Gift Set: star afghan with matching amigurumi bunny >> Over The Apple Tree

This afghan and amigurumi bunny set is for my soon to arrive niece or nephew. I've always wanted to try a star afghan and as soon as I saw this new pattern book for amigurumi animals, there was no doubt I was trying one of those too!

Since seven has long been believed to be a lucky or magical number, I was absolutely set on making a seven point star. Unfortunately for me, there are limited patterns to choose from. I ended up finding a pattern in a book called Geometrics: A New Way To Crochet, by Ruthie Marks. I followed the pattern except I did double crochet throughout instead of the front post double crochet it calls for.

I also got the bunny pattern from a book. Everyone's been talking about Edward's Menagerie, by Kerry Lord of Toft Alpaca Shop and for good reason...it's beautiful! All the animals in here are super cute and I can't wait to try more! If you decide to try the animals in this book, take a look at Toft Alpaca Shop's YouTube Channel for some great tips.
