Mending Jeans Sashiko Style

A great pair of jeans is hard to find! When my perfect jeans break, I try anything I can to save them. Usually, the part I want to fix isn't front and center so this pair presented a unique challenge.

So, I purchased these jeans already distressed. They looked cool but it wasn't long before the threads all broke and the opening at the knees started to rip when I sat down. I do think these distressed jeans look fine on other people but I just can't feel comfortable with giant gaping holes in my pants! Since the holes were so large and right in the front, I wanted to patch them, but do it in a cool way that looked intentionally fashionable. Hopefully, I achieved that and I'm not just fooling myself, LOL!

Looking for mending ideas, I came across the visible mending trend and Sashiko embroidery. I decided to give it a try on my jeans because what do I have to lose? It's either mend them or just never wear them again.

There are so many options as far as decorative patterns! I looked all over Pinterest and Instagram and saved anything that I liked so I could quickly find it again later and use it for reference. I bought a couple different types of thread and ended up mostly using cotton DMC embroidery thread.

I wanted the whole thing to be subtle. I decided to use patches that matched my jean color and I chose thread colors that didn't contrast too much. I also split my embroidery thread in half(3 strands) so it wasn't too thick.

Since this is the first time I've done this, I can't offer too much advice, but maybe you can get some inspiration from seeing how I did it.

To do the patches I took denim material and attached it with stitch witchery and then I zig zag stitched using the sewing machine around the hole with matching thread.

I marked out straight lines and grids for my patterns with a  Dritz Mark-B-Gone pen
